Astrophysics seeks answers to fundamental questions about the Universe.

Recent astronomical discoveries, which shaped the new paradigm of the concordance model of the Universe, place astrophysics at the very forefront of research in physics.

There are strong reasons for further development of astrophysics in Croatia. Astrophysicists study the Universe by making observations, analyzing data, incorporating the laws and experimental results of physics, and developing quantitative and predictive theories based on collected data and mathematical calculations.

These skills are highly desirable in a modern world that is deeply engaged in the frantic development of new technologies. Indeed, a recent study (Astronomy and Astrophysics in the New Millennium 2001) shows that many astrophysicists enter industry as highly skilled professionals at some
point in their career.

Astrophysics is also an irreplaceable part of public promotion of science and science education, which is an important quality in an era of taxpayer-funded science.

The astrophysics program in Split is designed as a high-quality international graduate program. The graduates will be world-wide competitive for their knowledge and research expertise in modern astrophysics.

Emphasis will be placed on publishable research work, supported through collaboration with leading international researchers and access to premier facilities.


A large number of elective courses will allow participants to tailor the program according to their interests. Students will be trained in effective presentation of scientific results, and exposed to the scientific policy making process.
