The PhD research topics, integrating physical and biological sciences, currently include:
Computational biophysics, Modelling protein-protein interactions, Modelling calcium signalling, Design of novel antibiotics, Structural bioinformatics, EPR study of dynamics in soft condensed matter, Cortical neurodynamics, Point-mutations and genetic diseases, Screening in biomacromolecular systems, Maximum entropy production as selection principle.
Invitation:
Ambitious students with inquiring minds and a Master of Science or an equivalent degree in physics, molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, medicine, informatics/engineering or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
description of the biophysics PhD programme
Acquired PhD level interdisciplinary competence in theoretical and experimental biophysics will facilitate employment at prestigous research institutes, government steering institutions, biotechnological companies, medical institutions and universities promoting interaction between physical and life sciencies.
Mobility benefits:
Training and research in Zagreb (IRB), Split (PMFST, MedILS, MEFST) and in several foreign laboratories will lead to a European doctorate in biophysics. All lectures will be in English language.
Eight ECTS creditsi (out of 180) can be earned for participation in summer schools such as those at some of the nicest places on the Croatian coast (Split, Dubrovnik, Cavtat, Rovinj's Red Island) or abroad.
The tuition is modest (12000 kunas~1700 euros yearly), but only a limited number od students can be admitted (the best 10 of all applicants per year).
Application deadline at the PMFST is September, 2008.
